Sunday Service - 27th June 2010

On Sunday Brother James Lee of "Breakthrough" came to share with our Church the work of this Christian volunteer organisation. The main aim of Breakthrough is to help the marginalised especially the poor regardless of race. Brother Lee showed our congregation some slides of those whom they have helped. Some of these people were really poor and some were old who could not take care of themselves. He showed a case of an oldlady of 73 years old, dispite having 12 children none took care of her, she lives alone. Some of our Church members are involved in this organisation. In fact our elder Dr.Tiong is helping the organisation in examining the eyes of the elderly and give them glasses where necessary.

Here is a case of The Three Boys.( See pictures )

The three boys whose parents were divorced had left them to fend for themselves. The youngest is 11, hope to go to school some day. The other brothers are 17 and 15 both working part-time to survive the family.

Note: Pictures and textabout the three boys is from Breakthrough website )

You can read more about their work from their website : www.breakthrough.org.my

The Hippopotamus and the Tortoise

This is a very interesting real story about a baby hippo and a 100 year old tortoise. Thanks to Sister Sarah sharing with me, it is here for you. We human can learn a thing or two about love from the animal kingdom. Read on....

'Much of life can never be explained but only witnessed'
Rachel Naomi Remen, MD

NAIROBI (AFP) - A baby hippopotamus that survived the tsunami waves on the Kenyan coast has formed a strong bond with a giant male century-old tortoise in an animal facility in the port city of Mombassa, officials said

The hippopotamus, nicknamed Owen and weighing about 300 kilograms (650 pounds), was swept down Sabaki River into the Indian Ocean , then forced back to shore when tsunami waves struck the Kenyan coast on December 26, before wildlife rangers rescue him

'It is incredible. A-less-than-a-year-old hippo has adopted a male tortoise, about a century old, and the tortoise seems to

be very happy with being a 'mother',' ecologist Paula Kahumbu, who is in charge of Lafarge Park , told AFP.

'After it was swept away and lost its mother, the hippo was traumatized. It had to look for something to be a surrogate mother. Fortunately , it landed on the tortoise and established a strong bond. They swim, eat and sleep together,' the ecologist added. 'The hippo follows the tortoise exactly the way it followed its mother. If somebody approaches the tortoise, the hippo becomes aggressive, as if protecting its biological mother,' Kahumbu added.
'The hippo is a young baby, he was left at a very tender age and by nature, hippos are social animals that like to stay with their mothers for four years,' he explained.

'Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away.'

This is a real story that shows that our differences don't matter
much when we need the comfort of another.

We could all learn a lesson from these two creatures of God,
'Look beyond the differences and find a way to walk the path together.'

'Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others, cannot keep it from themselves.'

A Tribute to Mommies

Father's Day just passed. Now we honour mothers everywhere. Here is a video of mothers singing to the tune of Rhapsody ( Song by rock group Queen ).

What is a Mother?

It takes a mother's love
to make a house a home
A place to be remembered
no matter where we roam.
It takes a mother's patience
to bring a child up right
And her courage and her cheerfulness
to make a dark day bright.
It takes's a mother's thoughfullness
to mend the heart's deep hurts
And her skill and her endurance
to mend little socks and shirts.
It takes a mother's kindness
to forgive us when we err,
To sympathize in trouble
and to bow her head in prayer,
It takes a mother;s wisdom
to recognise our needs
And to give us reassurance
by her loving words and deeds.

Sunday Service - Father's Day

This Sunday is special because it is Father's Day. The youths of FBC made a presentation. The presenter was Aaron Poh, Bro.Teck Lim's son. He started with a video "Tribute to Parents"(Watch below) followed by the youth singing "You Raise Me Up". Despite the minor hiccup in the singing presentation, all of us appreciated the efforts of the young people. All parents were also given each a token gift, mothers included.

A power point presentation

In this powerpoint, the backgrounds are pictures of our youths who went kayaking on Saturday.(Plus other pictures). The youths of FBC is led by Bro.Chung Chek, Sis Piak Imm,assisted by elders Bro Soon King and Sis Sarah. Some other elders also went along. All had a blessed trip.

Nehemiah International

Our Church had the previlege of having Dr.Han of Nehemiah from Germany to speak to us. He just came from Kalimantan where his organisation is helping a village with medical facilities and other amendities beside sharing the Gospel there.

Dr.Han is a social scientist, involving in helping drug addicts, the poor, homeless in Germany. Nehemiah was set up about 20 years ago to build bridges amongst the Churches in Germany. Traditionally, Churches there did not communicated with each other well.

Dr.Han also shared with us about reaching out to others, and how he has been sharing his live with non-Christians all over the world. He is a marathoner and he associated himself with fellow runners and after gaining their trust he introduced the gospel to them. His sharing is helpful as our Church is also reaching out to others through the Alpha course, and his ideas certainly helped.

He said he is ordinary like all of us. Jesus used the ordinary to teach the gospel to others, and we all can do it too.

He urged those who were not sure to pray to God to give them oportunity to serve Him. We all can start with befriending someone, or people whom we share particular interest. Like him he likes running, perhaps you may be interested in art, photography and many other things. Associate with people of similar interests, slowly gain their trust, and put the gospel into actions.

Personally, I think this is a powerful message. The important thing is to gain the trust of people and show them genuine love of Jesus.

Food Galore in Kuala Lumpur

We Malaysians like our foods. You get plenty of varieties in Kuala Lumpur (KL).

Slide No. 1 - Fried dumpling from O & S Coffee shop at Paramount Garden, Petaling Jaya, K.L. These tasty dumplings are sold by a Yong Tau Fu stall there. If you have a chance try it. No, I am not a marketing agent of this stall! Just that my family and I enjoyed these dumplings. We frequented this stall when we were staying in KL some years ago.

Slide N0. 2 - Curry Laksa also from O & S Coffee shop. Tasty but not too spicy hot. I have tried many stalls, this one is the best. Mou Tak Then! (If you know Cantonese)

Slide No. 3 - Old style peanut pancake. Sorry I did not have a picture of the cake. It is like the Malay "Apon Balik" (spelling ?) This type is cooked in probably 20 inches pan and cut into pieces. Brings back memories of the old days.

Slide No. 4 - Sushi, popular Japanese foods. These were from Jusco supermarket at I Utama Shopping complex. Those who like Japanese foods, you can get these at Jusco priced reasonably.

Slide No. 5 -Carl Junior burger. This is American. The resturant came to KL few years ago. Their burgers are charcoal boiled, so they taste much nicer than the usual pan fried varieties. It is filling, could not finish a burger in one sitting! At lease for "old" person like me!

Slide No. 6 - Beef noodle from Petaling street. Taste is average.

Slide No. 7 - Cantonese fried kueh tiaw ( flat white noodle ). This is from Manhattan Restuarant at Berjaya Building. It is tasty, the texture of the noodle is just right.

Slide No. 8 - Fried Kueh Tiaw from Pavillion Mall food court. Tasted very good. The presentation is nice, with the natural leaf container.

Slide No. 9 - Lai Foong Beef Noodle. This is the most tasty beef noodle in KL! The owner started this stall 56 years ago at the same location! (now second generation serving). You can eat this at Lai Foong Retaurant near to Petaling Street.

Slide No.10 - Hainanese Chicken Rice from Manhattan Restaurant. Very authentic and traditional tasting chicken rice. Very tasty.

Slide No. 11 - Korean noodles soup served with kimchi and pickled carrot. It has its own unique taste, good. Found in a small korean restaurant at Berjaya Time Square.

The Bible said our soul can be satisfied with richest of foods. Foods are necessary for sustaining our health if eaten in appropriate amount. This Psalm says they even feed our souls and we praise God.

Psalm 63:5
My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

Paul Washer

An inspiring message urging us to be like Jesus. How true, most things we like God does not. Most things we do sin against God. For example watching movies whose messages go against teaching of our God.

Let us be discerning, and stay clear of all entanglements that the evil one puts along our paths to throw us of our guards. May our Lord be with us, Amen.

FGA Kuala Lumpur 13th June 2010

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to worship at my first Church, that is Full Gospel Assembly (FGA) Kuala Lumpur. Infact, some ten years ago I was baptised there, so I felt that I was at home in this Church. FGA is a mega Church, congregation numbered about 5,000 members.

Incidently, Bro.Foo Lai Wei National Director of Alpha Malaysia, and Sis. Cynthia Wong also of Alpha Malaysia worship in FGA. I learnt about this when I spoke to Bro.Foo during his last visit to Kuching. Sister Cynthia is a friend of my Bro. in Christ SK Tan also of FGA.

Pastor Tan Jit Huat shared on discipleship on Sunday. The message was what we in FBC has been receiving from the various speakers.

Watch the video below of a worship song being sung in FGA. I do not know the title, but listen carefully to the lyrics which are meaningful.

May you be blessed.

Backhome

Last week I was in KL and I stayed in a hostel called "Backhome". When I was there I found that it was popular with backpackers from many countries. The rent is cheap, abour RM46 per night.(About USD15). The place is clean too. You get the basic bed in fours, three and two. The type for four persons to a room is cheaper. It is located at Jalan Tun.H.S Lee, just a few minutes walk from Masjid Jamek, LRT station.(Light Rail Transport). Real convenient. If you don't mind staying with strangers, you can try this hostel.

World Wildlife Fund Tiger Conservation

Yesterday as I was walking in a shopping mall in KL, WWF's staff approached me for donation towards conservation of our Malaysian tigers. I have read about this but never taken any notice. And I decided to do a little to help conserve our tigers by making a one off donation. As you are aware they are very few tigers in our jungle. I encourage you to do something for this endangered specie.

God created all animals and see that they are good. We need all these beautiful animals on this earth.

Genesis 1:25
"God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good."

City Harvest - Sun Ho

In the previous post, you watched a video about the difficulties the Church is facing, now here is a video of the wife of the Church's Senior Pastor Kong Hee performing as a pop star in US. Some how, I find it difficult to reconcile the fact that the wife of a pastor involving in a profession entirely opposite to what her husband is doing.

Perhaps you just ponder over this issue.

Sunday Service

Brother David Eu of Faith Methodist Church shared with us the Alpha Marriage ccourse. Bro.David and his wife is the local coordinators of Alpha Marriage. Two couples from FBC shared about their experiences after attending the course recently. Our Church will be conducting it for our members sometime in July.

We also had Dr.David Lam, a China missionary sharing with us his work in China among the Hakka population. He shared that there are 80 million Hakkas ( a Chinese dialect group)in China. He has been serving there for 18 years, and he encouraged our members to consider serving in China. The harvest is plenty there, but workers are few.

Again we have the previlige to have Pastor Isaac Yim preaching to our congregation. He has visited us twice over the last few months and have encouraged us very much.

His sermon :

For Freedom We were Set Free

Pastor’s sharing of the above title was base on Galatian chapter 5.

Christ called us to be free and yet we are bound by many things. In freedom we serve our Lord with joy. We are not to give in to our carnal desires.

Unique freedom that Christ died to give believers

•Freedom from set of rules – we should not be bound by rules that do not glorify God
•Freedom from a set of rituals – e.g the Jews were adamant that one should be circumcised to be “saved”
•Freedom from love of money – Christ taught us to come to God first and everything will fall into places. Money itself is not evil, but the love of money is.
•Freedom from prejudice and racism – Gal 3:28 we are all the same in Christ regardless of race, gender, slave or free.
•Freedom from condemnation, law of sin and death. Rom 8:1-2
•Freedom from the devil, fear of death and fear of a cruel God – people who do not know God, fear death. To them God is fearful and they have to please their gods. In Christianity, God is love. Rom 8:14-15

Christ has set us free. “And you shall know the truth, the truth shall make you free”. John 8:32

Purposes of God’s call to freedom of loving Him

1. Freedom to oppose the fresh. Gal 5:13b
2. Freedom to love and serve one another. Gal 5:13c
3. Freedom to fulfil God’s moral law. Gal 5:14

In this world, freedom means doing whatever pleases us, but in Christianity, freedom is what God created us to be. We are free in serving and loving others.

FBC Camp - Team Omega's Presentation

Relax friends! A short video of a performance by Team Omega during FBC camp from 28th to 30 th May, 2010.

During the Church service on Sunday 30th May, Pastor Timothy Chow shared that he has not seen such a "crazy" bunch of Christians! Comments coming from a jovial Pastor, you just can image what went on during the camp. But of course we had healthy and fun activites. We all really enjoyed ourselves.

All these by the grace of our Great God! Hallelujah!

Regrets

This is such a realistic video which I believe many of us can relate to. The amazing fact is that despite all our short comings and sins God love us and He will forgive us if we confess our sins.
