Our Friday meeting was at Dr.Wong's home. Once again, many thanks to Bro Wong and Sister Chuei Lian for letting our LG to use their home.
We discussed last Sunday sermon by Dr.Chung on "The Cross and Resurrection". We had good sharing.
We moved on to the disciple series, "Humility", led by Dr.Wong. He gave us notes to read for the next meeting. Humility is an important subject for us because we as Christians have to re examine ourselves and ask whether we are humble or not. Dr.Wong quoted C.L Lewis, like "If you want to know how proud you are the easiest way is to ask yourself, how much do I dislike it when other people snub me, or refuse to take any notice of me, or shove their oar in, or patronize me or show off?" The view of the world is that humility is inferior and sees a low view of oneself, however, C.S Lewis said "humility is not a low view of one self but an accurate view".
I think one main point is that we must have a servant heart like Jesus Christ. He is God yet He came to be human to serve the ordinary peole. It is not easy for us, but He showed us an example. Having a servant heart does not mean just believing it, but putting our belief into actions - actions to demonstrate that we are humble. There is a issue of communication in relating to others, you may think you are a humble person, but others may think otherwise. The challenge is to demonstrate that we are indeed humble, and people agree with you. This is not to say, we are proud that people recognise us as being humble, but to display Christ-like attitudes and behaviours. It is a fine line between humility and pride.
After the meeting we celebrated the birthdays of a brother and two sisters with a birthday cake. You can see these pictures in the slide.
